Already underway is our 2020 project Spirit of the Place, funded by Arts Council England. Due to Covid-19, we’ve had to make a few adjustments to the original project but we’re pretty excited about the new direction....
Spirit of the Place is a performative work directed by Joe Plumb. Working with interview recordings and transcripts collected from Ryde residents, Joe is creating a sonic experience that combines music, interview recordings and scripted dialogue. Creating a new experiential exercise allowance, you’ll be able to listen to the play as you stroll or stop and listen to each of the ten scenes when you arrive at their linked locations in Union Street and beyond.
This research-led project is highly collaborative and involves several local organisations and artists working across a range of creative disciplines. The primary research for the project has been collated by members of Network Ryde working with Sassy Productions, who have provided free training in the recording of interviews that preserve recollections of Ryde. These recordings have a specific focus on the High Street, Union Street and Seafront areas of the town.
